Our Story

Our Story

The Nantahala Outdoor Center was established in 1972 by Payson & Aurelia Kennedy and Horace Holden Sr., on the Nantahala River in Bryson City, North Carolina. What started as a humble motel, gas station, and rafting outpost became a home for paddlers, hikers, and outdoor lovers chasing a shared passion.
